Practical tips to reduce the fat content from dairy products

  • switch to semi-skimmed or skimmed milk
  • use fromage frais(fresh or soft cheese), quark or plain yogurt in dishes in place of part or all of cream (take care not to alter the taste or appearence of the dish by experimenting first - for example, adding cornflour or riceflour to yogurt will help prevent the mixture from seperating on cooling)
  • used reduce-calorie mayonnaise in dressing or dilute ordinary mayonnaise with yogurt
  • use smaller amount of strong tasting cheese(cheddar or parmesan), in cooking (such as in sauces)
  • use bechamel (white sauce), instead of cheese sauce for the dishes that covered in cheese (such as lasagne)
  • use reduced-fat cheeses in sandwiches or on cheese board
  • grated cheese for use in salad, sandwiches and filling so that less is required
